Yes, you can see i was SO excited to start this channel, but perfectionism dragged me down and then life moved on and got in the way. I'm talking about this youtube channel I started about ten years ago.

On this channel I had the fairly popular "Gray Hair Peptalk" and some experiemental things (including the abandoned hopes for Periscope). I was a new adopter, but it didn't work out to be anything that I had hoped. ... Like syncing up to the Youtube video platform.

Waves in the Water

I had some problems making video.

  • Lack of confidence in my abilities
  • Dissatisfaction with my end product
  • Lack of time and too many irons in the fire
  • Clumsy process
  • No money for proper tools

I have also navigated through health issues which really limited EVERYTHING because of constant pain. Thankfully two hip replacements have helped resolve the pain, but growing older with other health issues caused a real barrier to much of my online endeavors. I stopped any real work in writing and maintaining my websites during that time.

But now I am ready to revive the Youtube efforts, since I never lost interest and have been working through the issues listed.

What Will Work in Youtube?

Here are my problem-solving plans for the listed stumbling blocks of the past:

  • Go forward with what I have learned so far without expectiations.
  • Let go of perfectionism. Be okay with me and the beginners level.
  • I have (through necessity) weeded out many of the distracting demands and refined my focus online and IRL.
  • I have a fairly recent iPhone and am investing in some of the tools needed.
  • I dropped the subscription to Adobe Premiere (which I never learned) and because I dropped the need for perfection... content myself with what tools I now have.

The Backstory

Besides the health problems.... Let me share the clumsy way I used to make my videos. First of all, I used the computer cameras. For a garden video I carried my laptop around, filming in the yard. I also had a lavalier microphone that was connected to a wire. You can only imagine using a ladder to hold the laptop and trying to film, etc. Crazy town, I know.

The laptop would go black while recording, so I couldn't see myself. If this seems unbelievable to you, just know that I was used to "making do" and some of my tech abilities were very low. I complicate things, too.

You can see why I got discouraged with making video. I found writing and graphics much more in my purview. So that is where I spent my efforts in the last ten years.

This isn't me BTW, but you get the drift.

But Now I'm Ready!

My steps are now that I am working out a plan. I will make some trial videos. And once doen with that- the channel will restart.

Another thing that has been a part of the process is that for a number of years, while knowing I wanted to create on Youtube again, I was unsure of the focus for my channel. Garden videos, if they are ever made, will reside on that channel ( which also stopped 10 years ago or so. This Chalkboard channel will have life experience, spiritual, online business, and personal videos. The personal ones will be about things I like. So, no, it isn't a niche or a focus on income producing video. It will be eclectic.
